You are very welcome to attend the ninth edition of the IABR, DOWN TO EARTH, open from September 2020 until the middle of August 2021. Admission is free and registration is not necessary as long as the current corona measures are in force. If you want to attend our program, it is still necessary to make a reservation through our ticketshop.

IABR–DOWN TO EARTH is a biennale in times of pandemic – an anti-biennale. Instead of compressing a multitude of activities – concentrating them in time and place – we will unfold the program over time. A biennale true to form is simply not possible under the current atypical circumstances.

From September 2020 until the summer of 2021, the IABR will present a series of exhibitions and other activities. We will, of course, follow the guidelines of the RIVM, the Dutch health authority. This means, among other things, that we will wait as long as possible to decide when and in what form the consecutive program components will be presented. Conditions and guidelines

We look forward to welcoming you to DOWN TO EARTH, the ninth edition of the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam.

This is a biennale in times of pandemic. The safety of visitors and staff is our top priority.
The following guidelines and conditions have been issued to safeguard this.
Please read them carefully and observe them when visiting the Biennale to ensure a safe and stress-free visit for both yourself and our staff.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW
To facilitate 1.5-m social distancing, all IABR exhibitions and events are open to a maximum number of visitors. The number is set per exhibition or event.

The IABR staff will make sure that 1.5-m social distancing is observed. If necessary, they will call visitors to account.

There is a hand-sanitizer station at the entrance of the Keilepand. Visitors must disinfect or wash their hands upon entry.

Admission is free and registration is not necessary as long as the current corona measures are in force. If you want to attend our program, it is still necessary to make a reservation through our ticketshop.

Visitors that have complaints such as sneezing, coughing, a cold or fever are kindly requested to stay at home.

There are one-way routes signposted through the Keilepand and Keilezaal. Follow them to ensure that different visitor flows remain separate.

Our restrooms are safe to use. Like the Keilepand as a whole, these are cleaned regularly. Disinfectants are available.

Tickets

THE HIGH GROUND
Admission to the exhibition THE HIGH GROUND is free. You will not pay any booking or transaction fees.

RECLAIMING THE COMMONS and WATERSCHOOL M4H+
Admission is free and registration is not necessary as long as the current corona measures are in force. If you want to attend our program, it is still necessary to make a reservation through our ticketshop. Booking fees are €3,00 in total, including VAT.

Reservation receipts are digital and issued by e-mail.

You can visit the five spatial installations of WATERSCHOOL M4H+ in the public space in the Merwe-Vierhavens District without a reservation as well. At all five plots a QR code gives you access to a special web application. The outdoor interventions are located within cycling distance of the Keilepand, Studio Makkink & Bey and each other.

Don't have your own bike with you? Pick up a loan bike from the IABR, also visit RECLAIMING THE COMMONS, and you will get a pretty good idea of what just might happen in the future in this special part of Rotterdam.

The reservation system is hosted in collaboration with Ticketcounter B.V. Making a reservation at the IABR implies accepting Ticketcounter’s ticket conditions (accessible when you make your reservation on their website)

Ticketcounter B.V. issues the reservation receipts. Visitors who pay by iDEAL will normally receive their tickets by e-mail in less than 30 minutes.

Each reservation receipt has two pages, both with a unique QR code. IABR staff must be able to scan both QR codes to permit visitors access. Visitors are kindly requested to present their QR codes by phone (Wallet or PDF).

If you have physical complaints such as sneezing, coughing, a cold or fever you are kindly requested to stay at home; IABR will gladly welcome you another time.

Group visits are possible, but only to a limited extent. Please contact us for RECLAIMING THE COMMONS via info@iabr.nl and for WATERSCHOOL M4H+ via studio@studiomakkinkbey.nl to make arrangements for a safe and stress-free group visit.

Please note that IABR reserves the right to refuse a reservation without reason.

How to get there

Next to DOWN TO EARTH’s main venue the Keilezaal in Rotterdam, exhibitions will also be presented at Studio Makkink & Bey in Rotterdam and in the Biesboschhal in Dordrecht. How to get there?

BIESBOSCHHAL
Biesboschhal’s visiting address is Maasstraat 11, 3313 CR Dordrecht.

By public transport
By Bus from Dordrecht Central Station.
Take bus 4 in the direction of Papendrecht via Staart-West. Get off at the Maasstraat stop.
On the Merwedestraat (where you get off), walk in south-west direction towards the Maasstraat. Take a right turn onto the Maasstraat and walk aprox. 75 meters straight. You will find the Biesboschhal on your left hand.

By car
By car from the A2 (Amsterdam), A27 (Utrecht) and A16 (Rotterdam):

  • From the A15, take exit 23-Dordrecht at Papendrecht towards the N3.
  • Follow the N3 and take, after aprox. 2.5 kilometres, the exit Dordrecht-Centrum.
  • Keep the left side of the junction and follow Centrum/Reeland/Staart/Staart-West.
  • Move onto the Merwedestraat and follow the road. After aprox. 1.5 kilometres turn right, onto the Maasstraat. After 30 metres you will find a side road on your left hand. Turn onto this road to enter the Biesboschhal and the (free) parking lot in front of the venue.

Keilezaal’s visiting address is Keilestraat 9, 3029 BP Rotterdam.

By public transport

By Tram from Rotterdam Central Station
In front of the station, take tram 21 in the direction of Schiedam Woudhoek, tram 24 in the direction of Holy or tram 4 in the direction of Marconiplein. Get off at the Marconiplein stop.

By Metro
Take metro line A, B or C, get off at the Marconiplein stop.

By Tram from Schiedam
Take tram 21 or 24 in the direction of De Esch, get off at the Marconiplein stop.

Walking from Marconiplein (metro station and tram stop)
Follow Vierhavensstraat, keep to the right side of the road. Past the building marked ‘Roosegaarde’, turn right into the footpath past the Keilecafe. The Keilepand is the second building on the left. The entrance, which is in the middle of the building, is accessible by stairs and via a ramp.

By car

By car from the A13 (Amsterdam, The Hague), A4 and A20 (Utrecht):

  • From Kleinpolderplein, follow the A20 in the direction of Hoek van Holland.
  • From the A20, take exit 12 in the direction of Delfshaven.
  • From the exit, turn right onto the S114 at the traffic lights in the direction of Delfshaven (Tjalklaan). Note this road is subject to a 50 km/h speed limit.
  • Just before the second traffic light, turn right onto Schiedamseweg.
  • At the first traffic light, turn left onto Benjamin Franklinstraat.
  • Follow Benjamin Franklinstraat and take the fifth side street on the left, Keilestraat.
  • The Keilepand is the first building on the left; just before you reach it is a free parking lot, to the left of the building.

In May and June, work is underway in the vicinity of the Keilepand. If you follow the route as described above, through the Benjamin Franklinstraat, you avoid the constructions that are taking place in the Vierhavensstraat area.

Studio Makkink & Bey’s visiting address is Marconistraat 85, 3029 AJ Rotterdam.

By public transport

By Tram from Rotterdam Central Station
In front of the station, take tram 21 in the direction of Schiedam Woudhoek, tram 24 in the direction of Holy or tram 4 in the direction of Marconiplein. Get off at the Marconiplein stop.

Turn right when stepping out of the metro station, towards Schiedamseweg. Follow the Schiedamseweg up until the first roundabout and turn left, onto the Van Deventerstraat. After 100 meters turn left again, onto the Marconistraat. Walk straight ahead, after 160 meters you will find Studio Makkink & Bey on your left side. The entrance is on the backside of the building.

By car

By car from the A13 (Amsterdam, The Hague), A4 and A20 (Utrecht):
