In recent years, the IABR carried our research by design in ‘Ateliers’ during its social quest for sustainable development. In the Ateliers, designers and city and regional administrators came up with design solutions for social challenges together. The first Ateliers were in São Paulo (2008-2012) and Istanbul (2010-2014); from 2012, Ateliers were also established in the Netherlands with the support of the national government.

In 2021, at the invitation on behalf of the IABR, the (Dutch Research Institute for Transitions (DRIFT) conducted an evaluation to assess the impact of the method in the Netherlands. You can download the report at the bottom of this page (in Dutch only).
