The Next Story #3 Jaap de Jong

Sustainable movement across the city

Verhalenhuis Belvédère

CROOZE is Gilbert and Jaap’s e-mobility shop. They met a few years ago at the power-walking club on Stieltjesstraat in Rotterdam. While walking across the city, they soon began to exchange ideas about the ways people could and should travel in and around the city. The new approach would have to get people moving, reduce CO2 emissions, and prevent both traffic jams and the congestion of the city. That meant it had to be sustainable, technologically advanced, and beautifully designed. Late 2014, true to the Rotterdam spirit, their actions spoke louder than their words as they launched their business, CROOZE. ‘We use the slogan “Old Meets New Technology” and therefore felt that the Fenixloods was the perfect location for our new e-mobility experience center. A well-organized, spatial shop in which you mainly find different types of e-bikes for a variety of uses, presented in an appealing lifestyle setting.

A the request of IABR–2016 the Verhalenhuis Belvédère developed The Next Story. In ten afternoon sessions during the Biennale, remarkable stories of inhabitants of Katendrecht will be shared with the audience. What is their Next Story? Based on their past and present situation, what future would they want, and how is their narrative related to Katendrecht? Together, these personal anecdotes will show how active individuals can influence the development of their neighborhood, and even their city.
