High Noon: Harvest BK

A new generation of designers

Delft University of Technology + IABR

Most weekdays, starting at 12:30 hours, it's High Noon at the biennale.

Today, Nico Tillie and Anne Snijders from TU Delft present Harvest BK: a different view on education for a new generation of designers who will learn to link COP21, SDGs, design and how to involve social actors. Harvest BK, an initiative by the Delft University of Technology (Faculty of Architecture), Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek, World Council on City Data and the Veldacademie, is one of the practices that participates in the Delta Atelier. Together with other practices from the Netherlands and Belgium, they will work on the transition leap ‘(Re)productive City’ to develop concrete prospects for action in the Delta of the Low Lands.

Together with test sites Parkstad Limburg and Bandung, the Delft University of Technology is introducing a new integrated model for IABR–2018+2020–THE MISSING LINK in which the graduation studios of Architecture & Engineering and Landscape Architecture are integrated. International students from different disciplines work with professionals through the scales on integral and feasible design solutions, where urban metabolism themes such as energy, water, food, transport will be designed in synergy.

Harvest BK: the future of Rotterdam

design by Chuanzi Sun (TUD)

Broad experience with years of work on both test sites and the metabolism themes, provides an opportunity to design with local networks and knowledge. By using Big data, the World Council on City Data, Dutch Statistics, Geomatics and local knowhow, scientific and social knowledge are connected in a local setting, so social implications can be designed and experienced. This leads to the implementation of synergetic projects and lays out a growing medium for accelerating and scaling up. Synergetic urban landscape planning as a transition link.
