Masterclass Resilient Thinking

A natural look at the resilient city

RDM Centre of Expertise, Rotterdam University of Applied Science

In the context of IABR–2018+2020–THE MISSING LINK, RDM Centre of Expertise from Rotterdam University of Applied Science organizes the Masterclass Resilient Thinking: A Natural Look at the Resilient City. Resilient thinking is the new way of thinking about, looking at and working on cities. Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences is a partner of Resilient Rotterdam with RDM Center of Expertise and Expertise Center for Social Innovation (EMI). Together with organizations and residents, students from various degrees and programs work on city and port related issues from the perspective of 'resilience'.

Program
After an introduction of the Rotterdam Resilient Strategy by Arnoud Molenaar, Rotterdam’s Chief Resilience Officer, five experts will present what resilient thinking means for our daily lives. Ylva Poelman, Evert Jan van Hasselt, Jaco Appelman, Mireille Langendijk and Els Martijn will do so from the perspective of systems, techniques and tactics that can be found in nature. In the afternoon, the insights will be put into practice in several workshops that are guided by the experts.

Like each weekday during the biennale, there is a High Noon at 12:30. Today, the Expertise Center for Social Innovation, Veldacademie and AIR will turn the HAKAfé into the Atelier-Café Resilient Reijeroord, for a discussion about the spatial and social resilience of Reijeroord, located in the South of Rotterdam.
