In 2013, more than forty organizations, including governments, employers, unions, environmental organizations and other civil society organizations and financial institutions committed to the Energy Agreement for sustainable growth. In addition to agreements on energy savings, ambitions regarding to 14% renewable energy in 2020 and 16% in 2023 had been agreed upon. The ultimate goal is 80-95% CO2 reduction by 2050. Currently The Netherlands provides about 5.6% of renewable energy and has still a long way to go.
