IABR x AANKEILEN!: WATERSCHOOL M4H+ BIOBASED 1

WOOD

IABR, Studio Makkink & Bey, Aankeilen!

Episode 1 of a series of three talkshows about the possibilities of the use and production of biobased materials in city harbor Merwe-Vierhavens (M4H) in Rotterdam. Tonight: WOOD

As part of DOWN TO EARTH: WATERSCHOOL M4H+, the IABR and Studio Makkink & Bey in collaboration with AANKEILEN! explore our sustainable future in the resilient city in a series of three public conversations.

WATERSCHOOL M4H+ increases our awareness of our huge water footprint and the measures we can take to reduce it and takes this as the starting point for an alternative learning-by-doing area development of city harbor Merwe-Vierhavens (M4H) in Rotterdam.
What could a new living and working environment in M4H look like if it was based on the sustainable use of raw materials and resources, and biobased materials like mycelium and wood? And how can the local production and use of these materials contribute to an attractive, socially-inclusive living and working environment?

The first meeting of this triptych focuses on the material WOOD. The wood production landscape shows the possibilities of using wood as an alternative in the current, resource intensive, concrete-oriented construction industry in M4H+. What will it take to start a circular chain on the scale of M4H?
