IABR x AANKEILEN!: WATERSCHOOL M4H+ BIOBASED 2

MYCELIUM

IABR, Studio Makkink & Bey, Aankeilen!

Episode 2 of a series of three talkshows about the possibilities of the use and production of biobased materials in city harbor Merwe-Vierhavens (M4H) in Rotterdam. Tonight: MYCELIUM

As part of DOWN TO EARTH: WATERSCHOOL M4H+, the IABR and Studio Makkink & Bey in collaboration with AANKEILEN! explore our sustainable future in the resilient city in a series of three public conversations.

WATERSCHOOL M4H+ increases our awareness of our huge water footprint and the measures we can take to reduce it and takes this as the starting point for an alternative learning-by-doing area development of city harbor Merwe-Vierhavens (M4H) in Rotterdam.
What could a new living and working environment in M4H look like if it was based on the sustainable use of raw materials and resources, and biobased materials like mycelium and wood? And how can the local production and use of these materials contribute to an attractive, socially-inclusive living and working environment?

During the second meeting of this triptych, we will investigate the potential of MYCELIUM. Can fungi be used to shape the architecture of M4H+, what are the conditions for production? And can the use of fungi be integrated in this district, where food gardens and restaurants are already located and where the small manufacturing industry is also on the rise.

With Eric Klarenbeek (designer at Studio Dros & Klarenbeek), Aniela Hoitink (founder NEFFA/MycoTEX), Mirjam Grob (organic oyster mushroom grower) and Rianne Makkink (designer Studio Makkink & Bey)

The talk show host is director, actor and concept developer Lucas de Man. Lucas is the artistic director of Nieuwe Helden and of Biobased Creations and the presenter of various cultural TV programs, including Kunstuur.
